The Eagles are one of the most successful rock bands in history.  They were formed in Los Angeles, California during the early 70s and at the end of their first decade they had five #1 singles and six #1 albums. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, by the end of 1999, two of their albums, Eagles: Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 and Hotel California, ranked among the ten best-selling albums in history.

The band officially formed in 1971.  They signed with Asylum Records, the new label started by David Geffen.  Their first album, Eagles, hit the charts with 3 Top 40 singles.  Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" ranked Eagles at # 372.

The Eagles went on to produce their second album, Desperado, and third album, On the Border.  Both albums produced several songs that hit the charts including Tequila Sunrise, Outlaw Man, Best of My Love and Already Gone.  By the time they were producing their fourth album, One of These Nights, the band had started to fight with each other and Bernie Leadon left the group as he was disillusioned with the direction the band's music was taking.  Leadon was quickly replaced with Joe Walsh.

Eagles album # 5, Hotel California, came out in December of 1976.  Several of the singles including "New Kid in Tow", "Life in the Fast Lane" and "Victim of Love" hit the charts and the album itself appeared on several lists of the best albums of all time.  With over 16 million copies sold, it is their best-selling studio album.

The Eagles had one more #1 single "Heartache Tonight" in 1979 that came out with the album "The Long Run".  Shortly after that the band broke up and each of the band members decided to try a solo career.  It was a first time adventure for all of them except Joe Walsh who had previously established his name back in the early 1970s.  After the break-up, Walsh's career took a bit of a dive whereas Don Henley turned out to be the most successful of all.  Henley released several hits including "Dirty Laundry"", "Boys of Summer", "All She Wants to Do Is Dance", "Not Enough Love In The World" and "Sunset Grill".

Fourteen years after the breakup, an Eagles country tribute album titled Common Thread:  The Songs of the Eagles was released in 1993 and in 1994 they came back together for a live performance.

In 1998 the Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Frey, Henley, Felder, Walsh and Schmit were there for the ceremony.

In 1999 the Eagles came together and performed at Staples Center.  They resumed touring once more in 2001 with a line up of Frey, Henley, Walsh, and Schmit and in 2008 they launched their world tour in support of Long Road out of Eden at The O2 Arena in London, England.
