A Little About the Rangers

2008 went well for the Rangers as they moved up from last place in the AL West in 2007 to 2nd place in 2008, but if they want a chance at making the playoffs in 2009, some improvements were needed.  The Rangers brought on Mike Maddox as the new pitching coach in an effort to improve their pitching.  The team also moved All Star Michel young to 3rd base, Elvis Andrus to shortstop, and signed on Omar Vizquel.  These changes make the 2009 season look promising for the Rangers but the only way to find out if they will be enough to send them to the playoffs is by getting your ticket to Rangers Ballpark and finding out yourself!

In the Beginning

When the second incarnation of the Washington Senators was moved to Arlington, Texas in 1972, the Texas Rangers were born.  Unfortunately the Rangers were unable to change the losing patterns of the Senators and remained under .500 until the late 1980's when the team brought on Nolan Ryan and adjusted the team to make it more of a challenge.  Ryan immediately showed what he could do when he got 15 strikeouts in his first start.  He went on to get 300 wins and 5,000 strikeouts with the Rangers, 2 no hitters, and being at the top of the league twice more in strikeouts.  Although he no longer plays for the Rangers, he still works as a special assistant.
