The 2008 season didn't go so well for the Mariners, finishing at the bottom of the entire American League, but from this failure came new determination to do better in 2009. The Mariners even adopted a new slogan, "A new day, a new way" along with a new bench coach Don Wakamatsu and GM Jack Zduriencik. Wakamatsu wasted no time in his new position and quickly replaced the entire coaching staff while Zduriencik negotiated a 3-team, 12-player deal that added Endy Chavez and Mike Cap from the Mets along with Franklin Gutierrez from the Indians, and sent J.J.
