A Little About the Padres
Unfortunately for the Padres, the 2008 season didn't go so well, ending at the bottom of the NL West. Other than the team picking up 2-time All Star and 2007 World Series MVP David Eckstein, the offseason was on the quiet side due to owner John Moores selling the Padres to a group led by Jeff Moorad which promises to turn team around. With the current lineup of Chris Young, Heath Bell, and Jake Peavy, and now with the addition of David Eckstein, the Padres are looking good for 2009, but now all the team needs is support. So make sure you get your tickets to PETCO Park and cheer the Padres to a great 2009!
In the Beginning
When the San Diego Padres came into play in 1969, they quickly became one of the worst teams in baseball, remaining in last place until 1975. When the team acquired All Star and future Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, the Padres managed to finish higher than 6th. In 1984, when the team acquired free agents Craig Nettles, Goose Gossage, and Steve Garvey, the Padres were able to reach .500 and reached post season for the first time. The Padres were able to beat the Chicago Cubs in a 5 game series but unfortunately lost to the Detroit Tigers in 5 games.
