A Little About the Pirates
Unfortunately 2008 didn't go so well for the Pirates. They went on to continue their losing streak by placing last in the NL Central, but the Pirates are determined to end the streak in 2009. However, ot much was changed in the lineup for the Pirates. Ramon Vazquez and Eric Hinske, along with pitching coach Joe Kerrigan were brought on, but most of the pressure relies on players like Adam and Andy LaRoche and Andrew McCutchen playing at their full. If they do and all goes well, the Pirates could very well be a contender in 2009. Of course no team is complete without its fans so make sure you get your tickets to PNC Park and root the Pirates through a great 2009.
In the Beginning
In 1882, the Pirates were born as one of the first franchises in baseball at first known as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys. By the next century, they had become one of the best teams in the league with 3 NL Pennants in a row and playing in the first World Series. The team was led by an early star, Honus Wagner whose baseball card last sold for over $2 million.
