The beginning of Phish dates back to August of 1983 where the band first got together at the University of Vermont.  In the beginning, the band consisted of Trey Anastasio, Jeff Holdsworth, Mike Gordon, and Jon Fishman.  Then later in 1985, Page McConnell joined and, and in 1986 Jeff Holdsworth left after graduation.  The band has since and still consists of Trey, Mike, Page, and Jon, who now spread their unpredictable musical styles to the world of music and dazzle their fans with their always original live performances.

With the band's diverse selection of genres that they play including, rock, jazz, funk, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, bluegrass, blues, classical, reggae, and country, it's no wonder that this band has such a large audience.  Through the years, this band has seen little mainstream experience, they have still managed to sell over 8 million albums and DVD's in the United States alone. 

Though after being together for 20 years, the band did have an official breakup in 2004, but soon got back together in 2009.  They now have a full tour schedule and are on the way to their former popularity.  Though their bouncy rhythms and impressive abilities of improvisation for which they have become known for, Phish is still not for everyone but they still know how to put on a great show and are awesome in concert.
