A Little About the Marlins

From last place in 2007, the Marlins were able to bounce back in into 3rd place in the NL East in 2008.  Even with the well improved performance in 2008, the team still did some switching around during the offseason.  Mike Jacobs got traded to the Royals for Leo Nunez, and Josh Willingham and Scott Olsen were traded to the Nationals for Emilio Bonifacio and 2 minor leaguers.  Although inexperienced, through the 32 games Cameron Maybin has played, he has demonstrated his abilities as a leadoff hitter and center fielder which might help the Marlins greatly.  The 2009 lineup seems to be looking strong and if their wins start from where they left off, the Marlins could be a tough contender in the NL East so get your tickets to LandShark(Dolphin) Stadium and see the Florida Marlins through to a winning 2009!

A Strong Start

Even though they were just an expansion team from 1993, they still showed their stuff when they were able to avoid last place that same year.  The team continued to improve until 1997 when they captured the NL Wild Card and made it to the postseason.  Thanks to pitchers Kevin Brown, Al Leiter, Alex Fernandez, and World Series MVP Livan Hernandez, the team was able to beat the Cleveland Indians in a 7 game series in the playoffs.  Through the great management of Jim Leyland, the Marlins became the fastest expansion team to win the World Series.
