A Little About the Angels
The Los Angeles Angels are doing great with their 2nd win in a row for the AL West Division in 2008. In an effort to go farther into the playoffs in 2009, the team made a few adjustments. With a few additions such as pitcher Brian Fuentes and outfielders Juan Rivera and Bobby Abreu, plus Mark Teixeira's replacement Kendry Morales, the Angels seem to be going strong for the next season and are ready to destroy the AL West. So don't forget to get your tickets to Angel Stadium and watch the action unfold!
In the Beginning
Founded by former actor Gene Autry in 1961 as part of a baseball expansion, the Los Angeles Angels had some trouble their first few years in the league. Even though they had pitcher Nolan Ryan, who was top of the league in strikeouts 7 times and threw 4/7 no hitters with the team, the Angels were still unable to obtain first, but all that changed in 1979. Gene Autry finally had a team to be proud of when the Angels won their first West Division title in 1979. Although they were unable to win the AL Championship Series that season, the team added Reggie Jackson who helped the team win the West Division in 1982 and again in 1986.
