A Little About the Rockets

When they Houston Rockets were first established in 1967, they played in Sand Diego, California and were known as the San Diego Rockets.  They didn't move to Houston until 4 years later.  In their first season, the Rockets only won 15 games but then in 1969 the Rockets added Elvin Hayes who improved their game dramatically.  The first season he played, the Rockets made it to the playoffs for the first time.  Later, of Hayes was traded, the team brought on Moses Malone to replace him.  Malone went on to take the Rockets to the conference finals in his first year of playing as well as the NBA finals in 1981, earning 2 MVP's with the team.  Another star player for the Rockets was future Hall-of-Famer Hakeem Olajuwon who was added in 1984.  Olajuwon led the team to the 1986 NBA Finals where the team unfortunately lost to the Boston Celtics who had also beaten them in the 1981 Finals.  The Rockets did not earn their first championship until 1994, then again in 1995, and have not won since then.  After the 1995 win, the Rockets were unable to make it past the first round of the playoffs until 2009 with the help of Yao Ming.  Overall, the team has acquired 4 division titles, 4 conference titles, and the 2 championship titles of 1994 and 1995.  Can they finally get further in the playoffs this year and possibly go for the win?  Find out by getting your tickets to the Toyota Center and cheering on the Rockets to a great 2009-10 season!
