A Little About the Astros

Coming from their 4th place spot in 2007, the Houston Astros were able to improve their rankings by placing 3rd in the NL Central in 2008.  Even more improvement, however, seems to be showing for 2009.  Newly added pitcher Mike Hampton has a lot of pressure for the Astros are hoping that he will take the team to the playoffs.  J.R. Towles, Lou Palmisano, Humberto Quintero, and Toby Hall are all in competition for a spot to back up Ivan Rodriguez, Brad Ausmus's replacement.  Although the players of the Astros are older than most young players, they make up for it from all the experience they've acquired through many years of playing.  The pressure is on with the team striving for the playoffs so make sure you get your tickets to Minute Maid Park and cheer on the Houston Astros today!

In the Beginning

During the expansion before the 1962 season, the baseball team in Houston was the Colt .45's, but after 3 seasons, the Astrodome, the first indoor baseball stadium ever built and also known as the "8th Wonder of the World," became the new home for the Colt .45's who respectively renamed themselves the Astros.  In the beginning of their days, the Colt .45's/Astros were not much of a challenge, but had some big stars like Jim Wynn and Joe Morgan.  It wasn't until 1980 that they began kicking it up a notch.
