In the Beginning
Started in 1901, it took the Cleveland Indians a few years to prove their strength in the American League. They didn't capture a World Series title until 1920. Unfortunately, however, the Indians struggled to win after that. The highest they placed over the next 27 years was 2nd. It wasn't until Lou Boudreau became the new manager in 1948, who led their team to victory and earned his place as youngest manager to win the World Series, that things turned around. After that the Indians became a force to be reckoned with and even set an American League record of 111 wins in 1954 that held strong for 44 years.
