A Little About the Flames
The Calgary Flames did pretty well in the 2008-09 season, placing 2nd in the Northwest Division and making it to the playoffs. Unfortunately they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by the Red Wings. With determination to go further into the playoffs in the new season, the team went through some pretty big changes. Head coach Mike Keenan was fired and in his place is now the GM's brother, Brent Sutter. Now with added Jay Bouwmeester, the Flames' defense is even stronger than it was. The only thing stopping them from moving on further in the playoffs is now their offense. When Mike Cammalleri was lost, there was a big gap and now is up to Olli Jokinen to step it up and fill the hole. Could this be the year that the Flames go all the way? Get your tickets to Pengrowth Saddledome and find out!
Originally the Atlanta Flames, the team has been in existence since 1972 as an expansion team. Although they were young, the Flames were able to make the playoffs six out of their first eight seasons in play. When the team moved to Calgary in 1980, it did not change their playing abilities. They later went on to win the Stanley Cup in 1989.
