A Little About the Sabres
After players Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek were unable to play, the Buffalo Sabre's hopes of making the playoffs were sunk. They ended up in 3rd place in the Northeast Division. Knowing that they have a good shot of making the playoffs if all their players are in good shape, the team didn't bother to do much during offseason. All that was added was winger Mike Grier and defensemen Steve Montador, both of which are veterans. With the new additions along with their already strong lineup, the Buffalo Sabres look like they could be heading for the playoffs in the 2009-10 season so make sure you get your tickets to HSBC Arena before they're all sold out!
First starting in the 1970-71 as part of the NHL expansion, the Buffalo Sabres didn't waste any time showing what they were made of. In the 1974-75 season, the team already had the best record in the NHL, not to mention getting so close, but unfortunately losing the Stanley Cup to Philadelphia. The Sabres also hold the title of playing in the famous Fog Game, where a heat wave in Buffalo caused a cloud of fog over the ice. The only other time the Sabres made it to the Stanley Cup finals was in 1999 when they unfortunately lost to Dallas in 6 games on an unsure goal by Brett Hull in triple overtime.
