A Little About the Diamondbacks

Although not as good as their 2007 performance, the Arizona Diamondbacks had a great 2008 season, finishing 2nd in the NL West.  The Diamondbacks, with their good starting rotation and strength in pitching, are starting the new 2009 season as favorites to win the division.  The offseason was fairly quiet with only a few changes to the team's lineup: Jon Garland replaced Randy Johnson who had left for the San Francisco Giants, Felipe Lopez replaced Orlando Hudson who had gone over to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tom Gordon and Scott Schoeneweis replaced Brandon Lyon and Juan Cruz who had left as free agents.  The only uncertainty is the offense, and the success of the Diamondbacks will depend on some younger players by the names of Justin Upton, Chris Young, and Stephen Drew playing at their full potential.  The Arizona Diamondbacks seem to be heading for an exciting 2009 so make sure you get tickets support the team to making the 2009 Playoffs!

Earlier Days of the Arizona Diamondbacks

The 1998 expansion that started baseball in Tampa Bay is what caused the creation of the Arizona Diamondbacks.   Although very young compared to other teams in baseball, the Diamondbacks are a force to be trifled with.  They demonstrated their abilities by winning the NL West title in 1999, and making it to the World Series in 2001, where they beat out the New York Yankees in an exciting 7 game series.
